Falls of Tarf, Loch nan Eun and Glen Ey Circuit
Updated: Apr 14
A path along the western edge of Loch nan Eun tempted me to link Glen Ey and Glen Tilt. There is some great single track riding, but be warned there are also trackless wastes, literally.
I ticked off White Bridge river crossings and Bynack lodge along the landrover track from Linn of Dee. Then the hills close in to form a steep cut with singletrack fifty metres above the burn.
North of the falls, I climbed the switch backs to follow another cut heading east to Fealar Lodge. Then set a course southeast over a ridge and following the track of a burn between Carn an'Righ and Beinn Lutharn Mor to intercept the path to Loch nan Eun.
There were traces of stalkers tracks and deer runs but the going was tough and boggy. The path I'd spotted was not much better. White quartzite boulders picked out the line along the glen, but the black peat in between was soft and slick. From the loch, I skirted under An Socach on deer tracks and reached easier ground in Glen Ey.
The weather brightened as I passed the Alantour Lodge in Glen Ey and a following breeze got me to the Inverey and the road to the car in no time.
